Graduated from the Department of Sociology, Faculty
of Letters, Keio University in 1978. Received Ph.D. from the American Studies Department, George Washington University in 1986. Began teaching and researching at Keio University in 1990. Research covers a broad range of fields including cultural anthropology, phenomenology, and media environment theory and has expanded to the research and development of frameworks for 21st century manufacturing, including such topics as interaction design and design thinking.
