GID students visited Sabae city, Fukui prefecture, for field research on the topic of "promoting tourism through revitalizing traditional craft." Sabae's lacquer ware (Urushi shikki) is Number 1 in Japan for last 5 years, and also production of frames for glasses is number 1. The area is also famous for paper making and knife making tradition.
Not only these productions, it has many other reasons to visit; untouched nature, wild life, pure water, Onsen, and genuine Omotenashi - Japanese traditional hospitality.
The project continues until the end of January to come up design proposal to promote tourism in Sabae.
